The collection consists of minutes, reports, financial records, maps and plans, College publications, programmes of events, photographs, slides and press cuttings relating to West of Scotland Agricultural College.

The collection has been arranged into 11 series. Original order has been maintained where possible. Photographs and loose press cuttings have been arranged by subject matter reflecting the activities of the College.

Duplicates and items not deemed to have historical value were removed from the collection as part of the appraisal process.

This material had accumulated over time and was located transferred to Ayrshire Archives. In 2018 the collection was transferred to the Elmwood campus in Cupar, Fife. In cases where files were clearly misfiled, file contents have been rearranged by library staff. Where there was no obvious original order, records have been arranged into series and arranged in chronological order. Photographs have been arranged into series based on the subject matter.

This is a plan for the design and construction of 'byres' (cowsheds for Ayrshire cattle) created in 1953. It contains 47 cross-section sketches complete with dimensions and annotations. The plans were created for Niels M. Plum, the director of the Danish National Institute of Building Research.

The original order has been maintained to keep the series of drawings in order. Each plan is an item, including the addendums.

Records created by Iris Donaldson remained in her custody until her death when they were passed on to her family. Her family donated the records to SRUC Archives in May 2018. The collection consists of 2 boxes of unorganised files.

The West of Scotland Agricultural College (WSAC) was formed in 1899, following the merger of the agricultural department of the Glasgow and the West of Scotland Technical College and the Scottish Dairy Institute.WSAC was the first agricultural college in Scotland. In 1900, the College was based in Blythswood Square, Glasgow and leased Holmes Farm in Kilmarnock where practical work was undertaken. In 1927, the estate of Auchincruive, Ayr, was gifted to the College by the late John Hannah of Girvan Mains. It originally offered lectures and demonstration work in the science and practice of agriculture including; dairying, chemistry, botany, book-keeping and veterinary science. In 1974, the Blythswood square site was closed.In 1990, the College became part of the Scottish Agricultural College (SAC)..
